Lexington, SC 01/25/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Investigators with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department are working to identify where stolen items located in a pickup truck involved in a fatal collision Tuesday morning came from. This is according to Captain Adam Myrick of the LCSD.
The collision, that killed one person and injured another, happened at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Wagner Highway at Merritt Drive in the Fairview Crossroads community of Lexington County. Master Trooper David Jones of the SCHP said the driver of the truck failed to negotiate a sharp curve, went off the road on the left, and skidded straight into a tree. The driver was seriously injured, and the passenger was pronounced deceased on scene.
The patrol has also confirmed that the truck itself displayed a tag that was not registered to that vehicle. At this point, they have not said definitively the vehicle was stolen but one trooper indicated that is normally the case with this type of license tag violations. The patrol M.A.I.T team is investigating the collision itself.
