Lexington, SC 12/20/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A spokesman for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that they have arrested a suspect they believe stabbed a man at a construction business off Emmanuel Church Road earlier in the day. Tony Washington, 49, of the Cayce area reportedly pulled a knife and cut his coworker from his chest to his lower abdomen sending the victim to the local Trauma Center for emergency surgery. Doctors there rushed the injured man into surgery and repaired internal damages that including a bleeding artery near the victim’s lungs. The injured man is expected to recover but faces a long period of convalescence.
According to the victim’s family, the two men were loading a truck and getting ready to leave the construction yard when words were exchange. In a matter of moments, Washington armed himself with a knife or other sharp-edged weapon and seriously cut his coworker. Someone called 911 bringing deputies, medics, and firefighters rushing to the scene.
Deputies had the assailant detained in a very short time and he was later booked into the Lexington County Detention Center. As of Thursday morning, his charges were still not listed on the LCSD website. It often takes time for investigators, consulting with personnel from the Eleventh Circuit Solicitors Office, to decide what charges are appropriate given the evidence and the witness testimony they have gathered. No bond has been set for Washington at this point.
