SHS Health Science students receive CNA certifications

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County School District Four took the opportunity during the last week of September to congratulate their students who participated in the Health Science program at Swansea High School last year. This was a part of their career and college curriculum that prepared students to go right into the workplace while others used their newfound knowledge as a springboard to their college lives.

In this case, students received their Certified Nursing Assistant or CNA certification. This is an entry level certification that allows students the opportunity to go straight to work at hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and in the in-home healthcare field. Other students have already moved forward and are working to earn their Licensed LP Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing degrees. Some are even striving to become a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant.

The following students received their Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Certifications:

Taryn Shoemake, Kaley Shumpert, Sierra Thigpen, Abby Smith, Shakayla McKnight, Morgan Martin, and Shelby Snelling.

These students tested Friday, September 4, 2020, at Swansea High School in the Health Science Clinical Lab. They are 2020 graduates of Swansea High School and completed the nurse aide program during unprecedented times.

According to the district, these students have exhibited dedication throughout the pandemic with perseverance as they had already started their first year as college students when they tested. They had been looking forward to their testing day for six months and continued to study and practice their skills all while meeting the expectations of their college courses. In an emailed statement from the district Wednesday, a spokesperson for District Four said, “We know these students will continue to make Swansea High School and Lexington School District 4 proud in all their future endeavors.”
