Pelion, SC 01/15/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters with the Lexington County Fire Service fought a fully involved structure fire Friday. According to Lexington County Spokesperson Jessica Imbimbo, the fire was reported at approximately 11:57 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024. It was in the 100 block of Blanche Court off Washboard Road behind Rucker’s Feed and Seed southeast of the Town of Pelion.
When the first fire crews arrived, they found a single-family home fully involved. Firefighters pulled attack lines and began to fight the fire. At one point, they did enter the house, but the first due chief ordered them to come out and not to re-enter because the home’s structure had become compromised. Eventually, the home’s electrical service fell and was marked off with cones for the safety of the firefighters. Aiken County Electrical Co-Op was notified to come shut that line down.
A reliable water supply needed to be established but there were no fire hydrants in the area. Eventually, the on-scene incident commander decided that they would haul water from a hydrant in Pelion using trucks. They also requested that a truck and tractor from Lexington County Public Works responded to assist with the overhaul portion of the fire.
The home was completely destroyed by the fire. The cause of the blaze has not been released at this point.
