Single vehicle collision seriously injures two near The Ridge and Hollow Creek Tuesday afternoon

The Ridge, SC 06/29/2021 (Paul Kirby) – The driver of vehicle lost control and slammed into a tree Tuesday afternoon near Hollow Creek and The Ridge communities. Both the driver and the passenger received serious injuries in the crash.

The first call about the collision was reported just after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Callers to Lexington County’s Emergency 911 Communications Center advised the call taker that a vehicle had gone off the road around 315 Cedar Grove Road close to US Hwy 378. Both EMS units and fire service personnel were dispatched to the scene.

When the first firefighters arrived, they reported that two people were trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle. One appeared to be suffering from multi trauma shock and the other reportedly had a head injury. Additional fire service equipment was requested that was equipped with hydraulic rescue tools. Once the additional manpower a specialized equipment arrived on scene, the patients were quickly extricated.

The most seriously injured patient was quickly treated and loaded into an EMS unit. The supervisor had already requested that a Life Net helicopter respond to transport that individual to the trauma center at Prisma Health’s Palmetto Richland.

The first landing zone was to be set up at US Hwy 378 and Cedar Grove Road. Once transport began, the crew realized that they would have to wait for the helicopter if they stuck with the initial LZ. At that point, the decision was made to relocate the landing zone to Lake Murray Baptist Church where the patient’s transfer from the ambulance to the helicopter would take place.

The condition of both injured parties is not currently available. The SC Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into this collision.
