Six-year-old entrepreneur growing bait and exotic “snack” business in and around Lexington area

Lexington, SC - 01/29/2021 (Paul Kirby) – When you hear a phrase like, “I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit,” or, “I started my business when I was very young,” you might assume you’re at a conference filled with successful business leaders. You could also be watching the popular television show SHARK TANK, or at an investor’s conference where businesspeople are making a pitch to sell franchise agreements. The one place you probably wouldn’t ever expect to hear this was in an elementary school classroom. The thing is, if you were in a classroom where 6-year-old Mason Legrand is a student, that’s exactly the type of phrase you might hear. You see, Mason has owned his own business since he was 5 years old. Now at age 6, Mason is growing his business and living his little dream. He sells live baits and reptile foods of all types with the help and support of his parents through his business Mason’s Bait, LLC.

Talk with Mason and you’ll find a young man that not only knows his baits but also the creepy crawlies that people need to feed exotic pets like reptiles. Just his selection of worms and bugs is astonishing. Mason sells worms and crickets that are regular or banded, Meal Worms, Horn Worms, Super Worms, Wax Worms, Dubai Roaches, Phoenix Worms, Red Wigglers, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, Big Red Worms, Europeans Nightcrawlers, Canadian Nightcrawlers, Reptile Salad, and more! In fact, in Mason’s advertising he uses the phrase, “Consider it bait if you are fishing…….but a variety of living things love to have a snack!”

Mason sells his wares in several ways. First, look for Mason's Bait, LLC on Facebook. With the help of the folks in the family that are actually old enough to have a driver’s license, Mason and crew will currently meet customers to make a sale in Gilbert, Pelion, Redbank and Lexington for pick up. Think of Mason’s business as sort of a real “Grub” Hub for all things creeping and crawling!

The majority of Mason’s inventory is sold at Horse Sense on South Lake Drive near Old Barnwell Road in Redbank. His large Super Worms and Crickets are sold at Lazy Creek Pet Food Center off Innkeeper Road in Lexington.

To make a purchase or ask about his inventory and what’s good for what, call Mason’s Bait, LLC at (803) 429-8923.
