Edmund, SC 01/03/2023 (Paul Kirby) – A single-family home was destroyed by fire in the Edmund area of Lexington County Monday morning. The fire, reported at approximately 10:30 a.m., was located in the 2500 block of South Lake Drive near its intersection with Pleasant View Drive.
Crews reported they had heavy flames and smoke showing from the houses eaves all around the home when the first Lexington County fire engine arrived. Those firefighters began to pull their attack lines to fight the fire while another truck laid a large diameter hose to a hydrant on South Lake Drive to establish a steady water supply. This closed South Lake for the duration of the fire.
A crew of firefighters searched the interior of the home to ensure no one was trapped by the fire while others battled the blaze. Once they determined that no one was in the structure, they aggressively attacked the fire putting it out.
The fire destroyed the home, and the American Red Cross was called to assist the occupants of the home who were displaced. According to a spokesperson for Lexington County, the fire was started by a space heater that was not being used safely.
