UPDATE: Former Springdale police officer arrested after juvenile injured by TASER

Springdale, SC (06/03/2021 Paul Kirby) - A spokesman for the SC Law Enforcement (SLED) is now saying they have arrested a former Springdale police officer after he discharged his TASER and injured a juvenile. According to Tommy Crosby, spokesman for SLED, agents of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division have arrested former Springdale Police Department Officer Carl Brooks Wilhelm 36, in connection with an incident.

An investigation began after Officer Wilhelm reportedly unholstered his department issued TASER, pointed it at a juvenile and pulled the trigger. Our sources say that the officer maintains that his non-lethal department issued weapon accidentally discharged.

Wilhelm has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child, along with misconduct in office.

The request for the SLED investigation was made by the Springdale Police Department. Wilhelm was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
