State troopers turning to the public to locate witness of wreck that killed Pelion 10-year-old

Pelion, SC 07/21/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Troopers with the SC Highway Patrol are hoping that the public might be able to identify a truck their looking for in regard to a fatal collision in Pelion. They think that the driver of that truck might have witnessed a collision that killed a 10-year-old girl when the SUV she was riding in flipped over earlier this month.

Troopers know that the Toyota Sequoia the child was riding in was travelling east on Forts Pond Road toward Swansea when it ran off the shoulder of the road, the operator lost control, and the vehicle flipped over. Since the time of that collision, troopers were working on the theory that the Toyota was the only vehicle travelling Forts Pond Road at about that time. They have now located some video footage that leads them to believe that a dark colored possibly blue or black pickup was driving in the same general vicinity but was going toward Pelion at the same time.

This deadly crashed occurred about 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021. The SUV overturned near the intersection of Forts Pond and Chaney Road.

Although it’s out of focus and difficult to see clearly, the SCHP is releasing a picture of the truck they are looking for to the public. Please look at it closely. Perhaps you know who owns this truck or drives it regularly. The troopers just want to talk to that driver to see if they know anything about the collision.

If you know anything about this pickup, please call the South Carolina Highway Patrol at (803) 896-9621 or (800) 768-1501. You can also call Crime Stoppers to report a tip at (888)-CRIMESC (274-6372). If you'd like, you can make tips through their website at Midlandscrimestoppers.com. They even have a free app for downloading called the P3 that can be found in both app stores.
