Structure destroyed by fire in Batesburg-Leesville Monday night

Batesburg-Leesville, SC – 03/16/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A home was destroyed by fire in the 300 block of Line Street in Batesburg-Leesville Monday night. The fire was reported to Lexington County’s 911 Center just before 8:30 p.m. bringing fire trucks and manpower from the town of Batesburg-Leesville and across western Lexington County.

The first crews to arrive on the scene were from the Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department. That equipment’s operator reported heavy smoke and flames were coming from three sides of the home when he pulled in. As more equipment and resources arrived, the firefighters attacked the burning building.

During the height of the blaze, a fire truck and its crew were moved from Lexington County’s Gilbert Fire Station to Batesburg-Leesville to provide fire and coverage for the citizens in the event another emergency was reported. They stayed on standby as long as they were needed.

Firefighters on the Line Street fire established a water supply and poured water on the burning home until the fire was brought under control. Some firefighters had to stay on scene until after dark to ensure the fire was completely out.

The home was destroyed by fire. No serious injuries have been reported.
