Students take lead in next Lexington District One board candidate forums

Lexington, SC - Lexington County School District One’s Center for Law and Global Policy, in partnership with the Center for Media Arts, Design and Production, will hold three board candidate forums in October in the Performing Arts Center at River Bluff High School. Students from the Center for Law and Global Policy will ask the candidates questions designed to highlight the candidates’ qualifications and positions on key issues. Students from the Center for Media Arts, Design and Production will livestream each event on YouTube. The public is encouraged to watch the events on the district’s channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/LexingtonOne. Each forum highlights either three or four of the 10 candidates (Mike Anderson, Anne Marie Green, Mike Griffin, Kathy Henson, Jason Hinton, Reese McCurdy, Brent M. Powers, Travis Price, Chris Rice, Chelsea Snelgrove).

On Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, at 6 p.m., the forum highlights Anne Marie Green, Mike Griffin and Jason Hinton. On Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, at 7:30 p.m., the forum highlights Mike Anderson, Chris Rice and Chelsea Snelgrove.

The 60-minute-long meetings will be open to the public. However, to protect the candidates, students and others, the district will limit the audience to 175. All attendees must also wear a mask, sit in designated socially distanced seating, and leave the venue immediately after the event ends.

Candidate forums are essential because on General Election Day, Nov. 3, 2020, Lexington County School District One voters will choose four individuals for four at-large seats on the Board of Trustees.

Voters can find information about most of the candidates on the district’s website or see their answers to the League of Women Voters’ questions at the League of Women Voters Vote411 website. Just go to their website, click on the “Find What’s on Your Ballot” box, type in your home address, scroll down to the bottom of the list of races and click on “Lexington One School Board.”
