Griffin loves his USC Gamecocks and has been devoted to them in many ways for decades. A resident of Swansea, SC, to many people he’s known as Gamecock Larry.
Each Tuesday, he takes to the phone to join The Game radio show on FM 105.7 to chat about all things Gamecock sports. He’ll offer his opinion of that week’s games, cheer on the Gamecocks, and answers questions posed by other fans and callers about what went on during the week or what’s to come for his teams in the future. To say the least, he’s very passionate about the future of HIS team, the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Because of his weekly calls to the radio station, he’s become a tradition in his own right. Followers of the show grow concerned when Griffin misses his weekly call which he rarely does.
Although Gamecock Larry loves to spend time with his family and grandchildren, one of the highpoints of his life was when the Gamecock Baseball Coach Ray Tanner visited his home. They took a photograph together in Griffin's home that he cherishes to this day.
Recently, Gamecock Larry has been very ill with a number of maladies. He’s currently in the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Columbia where he’s being treated. Still, he does his best to stay up to date with what’s happening with his Gamecocks while he’s been down.
At this point, Gamecock Larry’s family has asked for prayers for a quick recovery for him. They know that if the entire Gamecock Nation will lift him in prayer, he can once again take his spot at the top of the heap of Gamecock Super Fans! Everyone is pulling for you now Gamecock Larry; Go Cocks!
