Swansea Freshman Academy student detained after being found with handgun at school Wednesday

Swansea, SC 01/05/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A student at Lexington School District Four’s Freshman Academy has been detained by the school’s resource officer (SRO) Wednesday morning after it was discovered that the teen had a pistol on campus. The school's office and the SRO were tipped by both students and parents prior to the student’s detention. This according to a message sent to parents by the Lexington Four District Office.

After the tips were received, the school’s administrative staff assisted the SRO in quickly locating and segregating the student from the rest of the student body and staff members. Once that student was isolated, their belongings were searched. During the search, the SRO did find an unloaded pistol amongst their belongings.

The student is currently in the custody of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and will face the appropriate charges. According to the District Office, the student was immediately suspended pending a district hearing for expulsion.
