Teen killed in minibike collision in Pine Ridge Tuesday evening

Pine Ridge, SC (05/25/2021 Paul Kirby) – A teenager died Tuesday after he lost control of and crashed a minibike he was riding on a residential street. According to Senior Trooper David Jones of the SCHP, the single unit collision happened on Williams Circle near Courtney Drive in the Town of Pine Ridge.

Jones said that the collision happened about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. The teen, who has not yet been identified, was riding a Kicker minibike on the road when he dropped off the shoulder, lost control, and then hit a mailbox and a tree. He was transported by Lexington County EMS to a local medical facility where he later succumbed to his injures.

A neighbor of the teen said that he was a student at Pine Ridge Middle School and was approximately 13 years old. The collision happened within a few blocks of the boy’s home.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher is investigating the boy’s death and the SCHP is overseeing the collision investigation.
