Teen pedestrian struck and killed while walking in the road near Gaston Saturday night

Gaston, SC 06/10/2024 (Paul Kirby) – The SC Highway Patrol (SCHP) has reported a fatal SUV versus pedestrian death in the Gaston area of Lexington County. According to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the SCHP, this collision occurred on Woodtrail Drive near the intersection of Meadowfield Road just north of the Town of Gaston.

According to Master Trooper Ridgeway, the victim was walking in the roadway when he was struck by the SUV at approximately 9:12 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The driver of the SUV remained on scene and was not injured.

On Sunday, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher positively identified the man who died as Walter Vinicio Diaz Perez, 17, of Gaston. Fisher said that he died on the scene from the injuries he sustained in the collision.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
