Teen victim of Miranda Road homicide identified by Coroner Fisher

Lexington, SC 07/25/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Sunday morning, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the teen who was fatally gunned down in the 100 block of Miranda Road in the Belle Meade Subdivision on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at approximately 4:00 p.m. Belle Meade is off Charleston Highway near its intersection with Highway 321 south near Dixiana.

According to Coroner Fisher, Direko C. Thomas, 18, of Columbia was pronounced dead on the scene due to multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The shooter fled the scene of the crime before law enforcement officers arrived on the scene. The coroner has labeled this incident a homicide.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident. At this point, they haven’t released the name of a suspect, but they have located a car the shooter fled in. According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, it is a black Nissan Maxima. It has been towed to the LCSD Headquarters for forensic processing. Their work on this investigation continues.
