Pelion, SC 07/05/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A ten-year-old girl from Gaston died after being injured in a traffic collision Friday afternoon. According to Lexington County Coroner Fisher Margaret Fisher, this happened on Forts Pond Road near Chaney Road around 5:30 p.m.
According to the coroner, Karly Grace Hunt was transported by Lexington County EMS to Lexington Medical Center after the collision. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival due to the injuries she sustained in the accident.
Lance Corporal Tyler Tydwell of the SCHP said Saturday that the Toyota Sequoia that Karly was ridding in with a driver and three other passengers was travelling east on Fort's Pond Road just outside of Pelion when the driver dropped off the side of the pavement. At that point, they overcorrected, and the vehicle overturned. The SCHP's MAIT Team is investigating this incident.
Coroner Fisher said that there were four other occupants of the vehicle. They were transported to a local medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries.
Pelion police officers assisted the South Carolina Highway Patrol with traffic control while firefighters and EMTs from Lexington County cared for the patients. State troopers continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
