Lexington, SC 08/25/2021 (Paul Kirby) – The Braelyn Aubrey Foundation 5-K Run / Walk has been scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2021, at River Bluff High School off Corley Mill Road in Lexington. It is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m.
According to the Foundation’s website at https://thebraelynaubreyfoundation.org/, Braelyn Aubrey was born January 16th, 2009. When she was born, Braelyn never would make eye contact with her parents. Within the first six months, she was flown by helicopter to a children's hospital. She had absence and myoclonic seizures and became very lethargic. This is when her family started uncovering some of the causes behind her lack of eye contact.
After a number of medical exams, it was discovered that Braelyn had a chromosomal deletion. As she got older, the frequency and severity of her seizures increased. Braelyn was delayed with regard to both speech and motor skills. Despite her ongoing issues, she displayed a fighting spirit and a joyful personality that infected those around her.
Sadly, on October 2, 2012, Braelyn was called home to be with the Lord just three months shy of her 4th birthday. The Braelyn Aubrey Foundation was created in her memory to ensure that her spirit continues to live on.
The purpose of the Foundation’s 5K is to promote awareness of the Foundation itself. It also helps to tell Braelyn’s story and to raises money for the advocation of children with impairing conditions and special needs.
