The Courage Center expands using grant funds recently awarded

Lexington, SC 03/145/2021 – The Courage Center recently announced the addition of new space that will help them to fulfill their mission even better. The Courage Center was built as a safe space where adolescents and emerging adults, who are recovering from harmfully using drugs and alcohol, can gather with others their age to have fun without using. The Courage Center also was created for their family members to get support from other families on this same journey.

Since the center opened, their facilities have been available mostly in the evenings and on weekends. The center's inside space has been used primarily during weekdays by administrative staff. There, they supported existing programs and services, developed new ones, planned events, wrote grants, served as recovery advocates, hosted community partners and stakeholders, and conducted the work of the board of directors.

Recently, TCC were awarded funds to lease additional space at 5205 Augusta Road. On March 8, 2021, they moved The Courage Center's administrative offices there. This will allow the young people and families they serve greater access to the Park Road facilities built for them.

During the coming months, they say that they plan to phase in expanded programming and activities at BOTH the Park Road and Augusta Road campuses of The Courage Center. During Phase 1, former staff offices will be transformed into spaces for art and music, meditation and relaxation, indoor exercise and fitness, and reading, homework, and studying.

While the board charts a longer-term facilities plan, they are both optimistic and excited to be able to realize more fully this part of the original vision of The Courage Center. In the future, watch for announcements about indoor facilities being ready and about additional meetings being scheduled!
