Pelion, SC 08/14/2025 - Chief Chris Garner and the Pelion Police Department wish to extend thoughts and prayers to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the family of Trooper First Class Dennis D. Ricks.

Four days ago, TFC Ricks was struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop in Orangeburg County and passed away last night.

Chief Garner said, “We all know the dangers that go along with the job, but Heroes like TFC Ricks, and every other Brother and Sister who step out into the sunlight - or the darkness - to serve and protect their community, knows coming home isn't guaranteed, but they do it anyway, out of a sense of honor, and service.”

He closed by saying, “Our hearts are heavy hearing the news of our Brother's passing, but we know that he will remain forever vigilant in watching over us all. Rest easy brother.”
