Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) - The Town of Pelion is calling all citizens and area residents who take pride in or use the town’s walking track to pitch in and help with some basic maintenance. The town has scheduled a workday to limb up some trees and cut some brush in order to make the track safer with better lines of sight.

According to Larry Sossamon, Pelion town councilman, “Our walking track needs a little TLC. Everyone seems to enjoy it, but we want to make sure that it stays in good shape and doesn’t get overgrown. Thinning some of the vegetation will increase visibility for law enforcement officers that ride through the area regularly while people are out enjoying themselves. That improves the safety of the area. It also just helps improve the overall look of the track and the park,” Sossamon concluded.

Sossaman said that the town's workday is scheduled for Saturday, November 7th, beginning at 8:00 a.m. People willing to help should meet at the little park between Pelion Road and Railroad Avenue just off Main Street. They should bring saws and small trailers if they have them. There is a place near the track that has a burn pile started for the old vegetation, but the limbs and brush will need to be hauled to that point. It may also be a good idea to bring a pair of work gloves.  Bottled water will be provided.

“This should be a great time to renew old friendships and meet new neighbors,” Sossamon said. “This is such a great little community and we're really looking forward to getting together and fellowshipping while we're doing something great for the community.”
