Third deadly collision Friday afternoon claimed another motorist in Lexington County

Lexington County, SC 12/13/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the identity of a motorist who died after crashing a vehicle in southern Lexington County last Friday. This death marks the third person to lose their life on Lexington County’s roads since early that morning.

According to Coroner Fisher, Keith Russell Defee, 61, died on the scene of a collision that occurred on Charleston Hwy. near Dixiana and the SC State Farmers’ Market at about 5:45 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021. Fisher said that Defee was driving south toward the Hwy.21 / Hwy. 321 split when he went off the right side of the road, struck a drainage culvert, and his vehicle overturned. Defee was not wearing a seatbelt when this collision occurred. This has been a common thread in all the deadly collision that happened Friday. All who perished were not wearing their seatbelts.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate this collision.
