Three Gamecocks sign with the Blowfish

Lexington, SC 12/04/2020 - The Lexington County Blowfish announced on Thursday the signing of three Gamecocks to the 2021 roster. Freshmen David Cromer, Cade Austin, and Sam Swygert will join the Blowfish upon the completion of South Carolina’s 2021 season.

David Cromer is a Lexington native, who played for the Lexington Wildcats and Coach Brian Hucks prior to beginning his freshman season at USC this fall. Cromer’s father and uncles all played for the University of South Carolina but he will be the first Cromer to play for Lexington County’s home team. Cromer is slated as an outfielder and will be yet another Lexington County native to suit up for the Blowfish.

Cade Austin is another freshman product of Lexington County. Austin pitched for Chapin High School, and during his time on the mound the Eagles won a state championship. He was rated as the 7th best pitcher in South Carolina coming out of high school and is considered one of the best signings of the 2020 class.

Sam Swygert is the third signee in the triumvirate of freshmen. Swygert graduated from South Aiken High School and made several appearances for the Gamecocks during their fall practices. Originally from Springfield, South Carolina Swygert was rated the 13th best pitcher in the state according to Perfect Game.

“Once again, the South Carolina Gamecock-Lexington County Blowfish connection proves to be strong,” Blowfish co-owner Bill Shanahan stated. “We are appreciative of our great relationship with the entire staff at Gamecock baseball and look forward to seeing these Gamecocks become Blowfish fan-favorites this summer.”
