Three Lexington One athletes win state titles

Lexington, SC (06/01/2021) - Recently, Lexington High School Senior Ajan T. Davenport won the Class 5A pole vault state championship. Davenport broke the LHS pole vault record with his 15-foot jump to clinch the state title. Remarkably, he began pole vaulting just two years ago.

Also, Pelion High School Senior Yessenia L. Castellanos won the Class 2A 800-meter state title. In her fourth year on PHS’s track and field team, Castellanos set a new school record with a race time of 2 minutes and 21.98 seconds at the state meet.

White Knoll High School Junior Kaniya M. Johnson earned the Class 5A 100-meter and 200-meter state titles. Johnson ran the 100-meter in 11.53 seconds, which is not only the fastest time in South Carolina but also the fourth fastest time in the country. She ran the 200-meter in 23.58 seconds, the seventh fastest time in the country. Johnson is already fielding scholarships to continue track and field at the collegiate level.
