Town of Chapin and American Legion Post 193 to host Memorial Day Celebration

Chapin, SC 05/23/2022 - The Town of Chapin's Mayor Al Koon recently announced that the Town of Chapin along with the Chapin American Legion Post 193 will jointly host a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 30, at the Chapin Town Hall (157 NW Columbia Ave. Chapin, SC). The ceremony will start at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance for everyone who has died serving in the American Armed Forces.

Please join our Chapin community in honoring our fallen service men and women at a Memorial Day Observance. This outdoor event will be held in front of the Town Hall Building at the flag pole. There is limited seating available but you are welcome to bring chairs and it is handicapped accessible. Since the ceremony will be held outside masks are not required but we will encourage social distancing.

Immediately following the outdoor ceremony there will be an indoor reception. We invite members of the public to share images, names and ranks of those that have been killed in action as a way to publically acknowledge their sacrifice and share in remembrance of their life. Images and information can be sent to Nicholle Burroughs at communications@chapinsc.com.

The keynote address will be given by Diane Rawl. Mrs. Rawl is a graduate of Lexington High School and The University of South Carolina. She has been married for 44 years to her high-school sweetheart, Stanley Rawl. Her most outstanding achievement and honor is being a mother to her two sons, Stan and Ryan Rawl. Mrs. Rawl will speak about her youngest son, 1LT Ryan Rawl, who was tragically killed in Khost, Afghanistan, when a suicide bomber approached Ryan's soldiers and detonated a bomb.

The Town of Chapin would like to extend a special thanks to Gold Star families, local Scouts, members of Chapin American Legion Post 193 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 193, Chapin High School students, local business who donated time and supplies, our Veterans, and to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to America.

The Town of Chapin anticipates that a majority of council will join us for the drop in, however, this will not be a council meeting, and no business of the council would be discussed or acted upon.
