Lexington, SC 09/11/2024 (Paul Kirby) - The Town of Lexington will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the Old Mill Pond Trail. The date and time are Friday, March 13, 2024, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Town of Lexington’s Mayor Hazel Livingston and members of Town Council will all be there to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Â
The Old Mill Pond Trail is a 1.15-mile paved loop that wraps around the Lexington Mill Pond. The trail includes various bridges, outlooks and seating areas that provide an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful nature in the heart of the Town of Lexington.
As part of the Town’s 2012 Vision Plan, a walking trail was planned to be built around the pond. These plans were greatly impacted by the 2015 historic flooding event that unfolded in the Carolinas; having caused the breach of many local dams including the Old Mill’s earthen dam. After nine years of the pond being empty, a public/private partnership has led to this new outdoor space.
Â
The public is welcome to attend. The official ribbon cutting is at 711 East Main Street, Lexington, SC. The public can begin enjoying the trail as soon as the ribbon cutting ceremony is over.
