West Columbia, SC 03/14/2022 - Two Brookland-Cayce High School students have been selected as finalists in the prestigious 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Brookland-Cayce High seniors David Hoffman and Amanda Lam will compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million. Criteria for finalist selection includes academic record, test scores, written recommendation, activities and leadership, and an essay. Hoffman and Lam were selected from among a group of roughly 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, representing fewer than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships. There are three types of awards: National Merit $2,500 scholarships; corporate-sponsored Merit awards; and college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards.
Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring.
