West Columbia, SC 10/06/2023 - Two Brookland-Cayce High School students are among roughly 16,000 across the United States announced as semifinalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program, a prestigious recognition representing fewer than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Brookland-Cayce High seniors Karl Lawson and Lukas Melcher will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,100-plus National Merit Scholarships worth more than $28 million that will be awarded next spring.

Semifinalists were chosen based on their test scores on the PSAT, which they took as juniors in high school.
