Two structures burn near Pelion and Chapin Wednesday afternoon

Lexington County, SC 06/30/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Two structures burned Wednesday afternoon on opposite ends of Lexington County. Both were burning at approximately the same time, and both were showing flames and smoke when the first firefighters arrived.


One of the fires was in the 700 block of Old Charleston Road near Lexington County’s Airport and the Town of Pelion. This was a reported as a mobile home fire with people trapped inside. The first unit arriving on the scene found a small single wide mobile home with smoke and fire visible. Deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department (LCSD) were already on the scene and escorted an occupant out of the home prior to the arrival of the firefighters.


Fire crews quickly pulled their hoses and in a short time, they brought the blaze under control. The Lexington County Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene along with Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to conduct an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. That investigation is ongoing.



No injuries reported were reported as a result of this fire. In total, there were 11 fire units and 21 personnel that responded.


The second fire was in the 800 block of Silverpoint Road in the Chapin area. Firefighters from Lexington County were assisted by crews with Newberry County’s Fire Department, the Columbia/Richland County Fire Department, and the Irmo Fire District. This was reported as a residential structure fire.


The first unit arriving on the scene found a small two-story residential structure with heavy fire showing inside. Personnel also found a power line going to the residence that was arcing dangerously. The fire was quickly brought under control and overhaul of the building started.


There were also no injuries reported because of this fire. In total, 9 units and 19 personnel responded.
