Wade Penland, Executive Chef and Managing Partner of The Bistro, has earned a coveted position on Team Lake Murray Country

Columbia, S.C. – Wade Penland, Executive Chef and Managing Partner of The Bistro, has earned a coveted position on Team Lake Murray Country after being selected via popular vote at the Taste of Lake Murray (TOLM).

 

"I am thrilled and humbled to represent Lake Murray Country at the World Food Championships this year,” says Wade Penland, Executive Chef/Managing Partner of The Bistro and the People’s Choice Winner at this year’s Taste of Lake Murray. “The opportunity to showcase our region is truly an honor that I can't put into words. I look forward to representing The Bistro well and making our community proud!"


Held on Thursday, March 21 at the DoubleTree by Hilton, the Taste of Lake Murray served as the “South Carolina Super Regional Qualifier” event for the World Food Championships (WFC). Penland's culinary prowess captured the hearts and taste buds of attendees, leading to his victory in the 'people's choice' process.



Team Lake Murray Country 2024 is:


  • Chef Chris Williams Owner and Chef of Roy's Grille & BBQ, Inc. and 2022 SC Chef Ambassador Team Lake Murray Country 2023 – 2nd place overall


  • Chef Mike Ellis

Of LTC Hospitality (Smoked, The Grand on Main, The Main Course, Good Life Cafe, The Players Club, and Peak Drift Brewing.)

Taste of Lake Murray People’s Choice Winner 2024, Team Lake Murray Country 2024

 

Penland joins Mike Ellis of LTC Hospitality Group and Chris Williams of Roy’s Grille to form the 2024 Lake Murray Country Team. At the 2023 World Food Championships, Chef Ellis demonstrated his culinary aptitude by securing an impressive 8th place in the highly competitive Chef Category, showcasing his exceptional skill and talent on the international stage. Meanwhile, Chef Williams captivated judges and audiences alike with his innovative approach, clinching an outstanding 2nd place in the fiercely contested sandwich category. Their remarkable achievements underscore their expertise and commitment to culinary excellence.

 

Dates for the 12th Annual World Food Championships have been set for Nov 8-12, 2024, in Indianapolis, Illinois.
