We Care gifts the “Little Truck That Could” to Newberry's Living Hope Foundation
Chapin, SC 10/28/2021 (Paul Kirby) – We Care, the food pantry and social services ministry located in Chapin, SC, was blessed during this year’s Midland’s Gives to raise enough money to replace their “Little Truck That Could.” This is the truck that they used to gather food donations from area businesses to supply the pantry that serves so many in need in Chapin and the surrounding communities.
The old truck was simply too small for their current needs. It also had high mileage that required constant maintenance to keep up with the demands that the ever busier We Care team placed on it. In short, it was just time for it to be replaced.
Recently, the staff and volunteers of We Care were able to hold a short dedication ceremony for their new, larger, refrigerated truck. The truck has been adorned with We Care’s graphics and logo and is now crisscrossing the area gathering food donations and transporting much needed items. According to their staff, the new truck now makes them capable of serving more people than ever before.
This could be the end of the story of the Little Truck That Could but it’s not. Even though the small truck no longer met the needs of We Care, the board of directors realized that it still had some useful life left in it. Instead of selling the truck, We Care gifted the smaller refrigerated truck to the Living Hope Foundation in Newberry! Living Hope feeds hundreds of people in need every month and is a dynamic, collaborative partner with We Care's mobile pantry outreach.
"The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy!” said a representative from We Care. Even though the little truck is, “going, going, gone,” according to We Care’s staff, it will still be used to glorify God and feed more people for many years to come.
