Wednesday warrant service “like watching a movie really, very exciting stuff” according to neighbor

Pelion, SC 01/19/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Several residents of a Lexington County neighborhood said they were startled by what they described as a loud explosion Wednesday morning just after 7:00 a.m. in a rural area just outside the town of Pelion. One man said the blast woke him up and when he got out of the bed to see what the commotion was, he was surprised to see a number of heavily armed Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies surrounding a neighboring home. This all happened on Canal Drive near Downey Drive in the Lexington Farms neighborhood. This is within a few hundred yards of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s South Region Headquarters.

According to one man who called The Ledger, a few moments after hearing what he believed was a flashbang going off, he heard a law enforcement officer’s voice over a public address system. “He was telling all the neighbors to remain in their homes until they gave us the all clear. They called a man by name and were telling him to come out of the house with his hands up!” In a follow up text he wrote, “It appears that Lexington County’s SWAT Team is there and there are two militarized (armored) vehicles present on the scene as well.”

Another neighbor said in a phone interview, “It was definitely a different way to wake up in our neighborhood this morning. It’s usually quiet around here so it was exciting to watch after I got over the initial shock of the big boom. That really rattled my windows. It was obvious that the deputies were well equipped and prepared to do whatever it took to arrest this guy,” he continued. A short time later, one of the neighbors described seeing several people be led to patrol cars in handcuffs. “It was like watching a movie really, very exciting stuff.”

A quick text to Captain Adam Myrick, spokesman for Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, confirmed both of the men’s suspicions. “We executed a search warrant this morning,” he wrote. “One in custody and all secure at two locations.” he concluded. Captain Myrick has not identified the suspect at this point nor has he said what the arrest warrant was for. We have asked for that information and are waiting on his reply.
