West Columbia man arrested after shooting another during an altercation

West Columbia, SC 09/01/2021 (Paul Kirby) - A West Columbia man is behind bars after police says he shot a man during an altercation. According to Captain Marion Boyce of the WCPD, James Austin Park, 35, shot Brandon Reese Baker on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.


Captain Boyce said that officers with the West Columbia Police Department responded to 901 Mohawk Drive in West Columbia in reference to a report of an ongoing altercation. Officers arrived to find one man suffering from a gunshot wound. After investigating the incident further, they determined that Parks shot Baker during the incident.

First responders from the fire department responded and assisted Lexington County EMS with patient care. The EMS crew transported Baker to Prisma Health Richland Trauma Center where he is being treated for his injuries.


Parks was taken into custody shortly after the shooting without further incident. He been charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime. He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center where he will soon make an appearance before a judge.
