West Columbia, SC 12/30/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Officers with the West Columbia Police Department spent much of Wednesday afternoon and evening searching for two individuals they believe are connected to a fatal shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Shull Street yesterday. On December 29, 2021, officers from the City of West Columbia Police Department responded to a call reporting the sound of gunshots in that area. When officers arrived on scene, they found a victim with gunshot wounds to the upper body. That person died as a result of the injuries.
West Columbia Police Chief Marion Boyce said that the department does not believe that the public is in any danger because of this shooting. They think this was an isolated incident and not some random act of violence.
For a most of the afternoon, officers actively searched the area for the suspects. Much of Shull Street was closed and K-9s from a neighboring department were called to assist. At one point, officers focused on an area surrounding a longtime West Columbia based business on Meeting Street. Shull Street and Meeting Street run parallel to one another.
During this investigation, detectives have been asking businesses and homeowners to check their video survilence systems for footage that may show the suspects as they fled. Remeber, they may have been together or seprated after fleeing the scen. As late as Thursday morning afer 9:30 a.m., additional buiness owners were requesting officers respond to their locations as they found footage that could help identify the killers.
