West Columbia police make arrests in armed robbery case

West Columbia, S.C. (Paul Kirby) – On Thursday, investigators with the West Columbia Police Department and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men in connection with a armed robbery that occurred on September 20, 2020.

According to police, Javon Emory Jenkins and Jonathan Wesley Scott Woods had their vehicle towed and were dropped off at the UHaul rental location located at 400 Orchard Drive in West Columbia. While there, the two men robbed their tow truck driver at gunpoint and fled with the victim’s property.

Following an investigation, the suspects were identified as Jenkins and Woods. Using information obtained during the investigation, police were able to obtain warrants for the two men’s arrest. On Thursday, October 8, 2020 police found both Jenkins and Woods at a property on Southern Drive in Columbia. They were placed under arrest and charged with Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Possession of a Firearm During a Violent Crime, and Criminal Conspiracy by the West Columbia officers.

After the two men were taken into custody, deputies from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at that residence. They found money, narcotics, and multiple stolen firearms during their search. Charges for the two men are now pending with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
