Lexington, SC 09/02/2025 – The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission is proud to announce the opening of Wingard Park on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the intersection of Old Chapin and Old Cherokee Roads.
This new park is located on over 14 acres and fulfills the vision of the late Ms. Willie Wingard, who generously donated the land to be preserved and enjoyed by the community. In keeping with her wishes, Wingard Park will remain a passive park, offering a place for personal recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature—without sports fields or gymnasiums.
The Commission designed and constructed the park amenities, with the park’s centerpiece as an inclusive, artificial-turf playground designed for people of all ages and abilities. Additional features include picnic tables, a covered shelter, and four family restrooms; creating a welcoming environment for gatherings, play, and leisure. Considerable green space acreage is preserved for the passive park experience.
“We are excited to open this beautiful new space free of charge to Lexington County residents,” said Randy Gibson, LCRAC Executive Director. “Wingard Park represents not only a place to play and relax, but also a lasting tribute to Ms. Wingard’s generosity and commitment to our community.”
The Commission invites all residents to visit Wingard Park and experience this new inclusive destination designed for everyone to enjoy.
