Woman dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound on I-20

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the SC Highway Patrol are on the scene of an automobile accident on I-20 east near the 55 mile-marker Thursday morning. This is at the South Lake Drive overpass. The sheriff’s department is now saying that after the collision the female driver of the car died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The call regarding the accident came into Lexington County around 5:00 a.m. Thursday. It was dispatched as a collision with a gunshot. Personnel for the sheriff’s department, Lexington County EMS, and the fire service responded. Because a caller had reported hearing the gunshot, it required that medical personnel stand by at a spot some distances from the scene until law enforcement officers made sure that there was no danger to those medical workers. When these first responders arrived, they found the vehicle and a woman who was deceased.

According to the sheriff’s department’s social media site they are investigating, however, they are working this gunshot as self-inflicted.
